Uzbekistan and international banks agree to deepen cooperation on economic reforms

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 19 May, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Jamshid Kuchkarov held a meeting with representatives from the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The delegations were led by Tatiana Proskuryakova, World Bank Regional Director for Central Asia, and Kanokpan Lao-Araya, ADB Country Director for Uzbekistan.

The meeting took place within the framework of ongoing dialogue with international financial institutions aimed at supporting Uzbekistan’s wide-ranging economic reforms and ensuring sustainable development. During the discussions, the parties explored promising areas of cooperation, with a focus on introducing new financial instruments and support mechanisms to ensure the effective implementation of reform programs.

Particular attention was given to the World Bank’s Program-for-Results (PforR) mechanism — a modern financing approach under which funds are disbursed only after the achievement of specific, measurable outcomes, grounded in the use of national governance systems.

During the meeting, World Bank specialist Min Jiao shared China’s experience with the application of this program, which has been successfully implemented to support national initiatives.

Following the talks, both sides agreed to further deepen their strategic partnership and continue working together to enhance the effectiveness of Uzbekistan’s reform efforts.
