Uzbekistan and Indonesia Sign Agreement on Trade and Investment Cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 2 March, negotiations were held via videoconference between the head of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan, Laziz Kudratov, and the Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia, Budi Santoso. The talks focused on advancing bilateral trade, economic, and investment cooperation.

The sides noted the steady positive momentum in bilateral relations and highlighted the significant increase in mutual trade in 2025. According to participants, trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Indonesia rose by 82 percent, marking a notable strengthening of economic ties.

During the discussions, concrete agreements were reached to expand exports of Uzbek agricultural products, accelerate quarantine and phytosanitary procedures, and establish cooperation on the mutual recognition of halal certificates. Particular emphasis was placed on transitioning to practical mechanisms for implementing these initiatives.

Following the meeting, the parties signed an Agreement on Trade and Investment Cooperation, as well as a Joint Ministerial Statement announcing the launch of negotiations toward a free trade agreement between Uzbekistan and Indonesia.

The participants expressed confidence that the agreements reached would elevate bilateral cooperation to a qualitatively new level, create additional opportunities for mutually beneficial partnership, and provide fresh impetus for the long-term development of economic relations between the two countries.
