Uzbekistan and Hungary Discuss Expansion of Interparliamentary Cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During the official visit of the Oliy Majlis delegation to Hungary, the Uzbek-Hungarian interparliamentary friendship group and relevant parliamentary committees held a meeting to discuss further development of bilateral cooperation.

Uzbek parliamentarians reaffirmed their firm commitment to strengthening engagement with the Hungarian National Assembly, emphasizing Hungary’s extensive parliamentary experience and friendly stance toward Uzbekistan.

The discussion highlighted the importance Uzbekistan places on the consistent implementation of agreements signed between the two countries, activation of parliamentary friendship groups, and exchange of expertise in legislative processes, territorial development, social protection, tax policy, and digitalization.

Participants noted that practical cooperation between Uzbekistan and Hungary has steadily progressed across all sectors in recent years. An effective dialogue has been established at the level of governments, ministries, agencies, and regions, and cooperation continues within the frameworks of the UN, the Organization of Turkic States, and other international organizations.

Economic cooperation received particular attention. The meeting noted growth in trade, an increase in joint ventures, and expanded collaboration across various economic sectors. A proposal was made to hold the next session of the Uzbek-Hungarian Business Council with participation from a broad range of entrepreneurs.

The outcomes of the First Regional Forum, held in Kokand in October 2024, were positively evaluated. To further strengthen interregional cooperation, a Second Forum is planned in Budapest in early 2026, with a focus on developing regional ties.

Cultural and humanitarian collaboration is also steadily advancing. The unveiling of a bust of Alisher Navoi in Lakitelek in October 2024 and the Uzbek Film Days held in Budapest in January 2025 were recognized as contributing to friendship and mutual understanding between the peoples of both countries.

Uzbek parliamentarians expressed appreciation for Hungary’s annual grants to 200 Uzbek students under the “Stipendium Hungaricum” program and confirmed their readiness to expand educational cooperation. Initiatives were supported for the III Uzbek-Hungarian Forum of University Rectors in March 2026 and for joint double-degree programs.

The meeting also discussed the potential expansion of direct air links between the countries to stimulate business, tourism, and cultural exchanges.
