Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As part of his official visit to Hungary, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Sports, Adkham Ikramov, held a meeting with Professor Béla Merkely, Rector of Semmelweis University.

Semmelweis University enjoys a strong international reputation for its achievements in medicine, science, and healthcare.

During the talks, the two sides discussed prospects for bilateral cooperation in the social sphere, including public health support, training of medical professionals and managers, and especially the development of sports medicine practices for athlete health monitoring.

Minister Ikramov shared insights on Uzbekistan’s sports reforms initiated by the President, which have led to 44% of the population engaging in active and healthy lifestyles, along with the expansion of modern sports infrastructure. He also highlighted the significance of the “Five Olympic Initiatives” project in promoting grassroots sports across the country.

Hungary’s own sports development was also noted, with around 40% of its population regularly participating in physical activity. The meeting concluded with a detailed discussion on key areas of cooperation and plans for further engagement in sports medicine and human capital development.
