Uzbekistan and Hong Kong Discuss Expansion of Investment Cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 24 October, the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan hosted a meeting between Deputy Minister Shokhrukh Gulamov and Alpha Lau, Director of Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK), the investment promotion agency of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

InvestHK, established in 2000, is a government agency tasked with attracting foreign direct investment, supporting international companies, and strengthening Hong Kong’s position as a global financial center.

During the talks, the parties discussed prospects for expanding investment and economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Hong Kong. Special attention was given to preparing agreements on the avoidance of double taxation and mutual protection of investments, which will provide a reliable legal framework for long-term partnership.

The sides also considered initiatives to establish direct Tashkent–Hong Kong flights, open a representative office of the Ministry in Hong Kong, create a branch of a Hong Kong bank in Tashkent, and address practical matters related to the upcoming visit of an Uzbek delegation to Hong Kong to deepen bilateral engagement.

Following the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their mutual interest in strengthening business ties and agreed to continue working on the implementation of the agreements reached.
