Uzbekistan and GGGI Discuss Implementation of Green Economy and Paris Agreement Projects

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 16 January 2026, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan to discuss the implementation of two joint projects with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI).

The first project, titled “Supporting Uzbekistan in the Implementation of the Paris Agreement and Facilitating Cooperative Action with the Republic of Korea under Article 6,” предусматривает financing of US$8.5 million and will be implemented over the period 2026–2030 through a grant from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

The second project, “Addressing Climate Finance Gaps in Central Asia,” is valued at €400,000 and is scheduled for implementation in 2025–2026. Its objective is to close climate finance gaps in Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, accelerate the transition of the financial sector to a green economy, and expand opportunities for green investment.

During the meeting, the primary focus was placed on planning the next stages of project implementation, discussing key parameters, and coordinating timelines for initiatives that had previously been approved.

The parties also reviewed proposals for introducing pilot solutions in the areas of energy, resource management, and sustainable development, their adaptation to local conditions, and the identification of territories for project deployment.

In addition, measures related to institutional and organizational support for the joint initiatives, capacity building, and strengthening bilateral cooperation within the framework of project implementation were discussed.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the sides reaffirmed their readiness to further develop cooperation and agreed to continue joint work under the existing agreements.
