Uzbekistan and EAEU Countries Discuss Combating Illegal Tobacco Trade
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A meeting of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) dedicated to countering the illegal import and circulation of tobacco and nicotine-containing products within member states was held in Almaty.
The event was attended by representatives of the customs authorities of EAEU member countries. Participants discussed current threats and effective practices for combating illegal tobacco products in Central Asia.
Officials from the Uzbek Customs Committee presented a report highlighting the positive results of Uzbekistan’s customs operations, emphasizing modern control methods, digitalization of procedures, and the country’s national experience in detecting violations.
As part of the meeting program, participants visited the Japan Tobacco International (JTI) factory in Kazakhstan, familiarized themselves with production processes, and discussed prospects for joint projects and cooperation in tobacco product control.
The event underscored the importance of coordinating efforts among EAEU countries to reduce illegal tobacco trade and enhance market transparency.
