Uzbekistan and China discuss joint projects in energy, AI, and infrastructure

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 24 April, Tashkent hosted the fourth meeting of the Uzbekistan-China Working Group on Investment Cooperation, held within the framework of the Subcommittee on Trade and Economic Interaction.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the current state of cooperation in the investment sphere. In 2024, the volume of attracted investments between Uzbekistan and China exceeded US$10 billion, which is 2.5 times higher compared to the previous year.

Key topics on the agenda included strengthening investment and financial ties — including the use of credit mechanisms in national currencies — the development of economic and industrial zones with Chinese capital involvement, as well as the implementation of joint initiatives in the fields of "new" infrastructure, energy, and artificial intelligence. Special attention was given to expanding cooperation in transportation, agriculture, the IT sector, and the mining industry.

The parties discussed the prospects for establishing new joint industrial zones across various regions of Uzbekistan, as well as tools to support investment activity.

In the afternoon, a meeting between representatives of the business communities of both countries was held. The Uzbek side presented priority areas for investment to potential partners, while Chinese companies showcased their projects and expressed keen interest in further expanding their operations in Uzbekistan.

At the conclusion of the meeting, participants reaffirmed their commitment to deepening investment partnerships and agreed to hold the next, fifth session of the working group in 2026 in Beijing.
