Uzbekistan and China Agree on Construction of Pumped-Storage Plants and New Power Lines

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s Minister of Energy, Jurabek Mirzamahmudov, told Uzbekiston 24 TV about the outcomes of discussions within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) countries on joint work in the energy sector, implementation of investment projects, and enhancing the interdependence of regional power systems.

According to him, China remains Uzbekistan’s largest investment and technological partner in the energy sector. “China provides not only investments but also almost all key technological equipment, as the country possesses the most advanced technologies in this field,” the minister said.

The parties reached agreements on the construction of pumped-storage power plants (PSPPs) in Uzbekistan, as well as on the long-term implementation of projects to lay and commission new power transmission lines.

To stabilize electricity supply in the capital, mobile substations will be supplied from China and used during the maintenance of stationary facilities.

Special attention was given to joint workforce development with China Datang Corporation: Uzbek specialists will undergo training and advanced qualification programs in renewable energy.
