Uzbekistan and Belarus Strengthen Cooperation in Environmental Assessment

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A ceremony was held at the State Environmental Expertise Center under the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change of Uzbekistan to sign a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Republican Center for State Environmental Expertise, Training, Professional Development, and Retraining under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of Belarus.

The document aims to strengthen friendly ties between Uzbekistan and Belarus, promote scientific and practical collaboration in the field of ecology, and enhance the professional capacity of personnel in environmental protection.

Key Areas of Cooperation

Under the Memorandum, the parties agreed to cooperate in the following areas:

Improving environmental impact assessment (EIA) and state environmental expertise processes by implementing modern scientific approaches.

Conducting joint seminars, professional development courses, and scientific-practical forums.

Developing cooperation in the digitalization of environmental expertise, including creating online databases, analytical systems, and innovative tools.

Conducting joint scientific research in environmental safety.

Developing joint standards, norms, methodological, and educational materials.

Participating in international initiatives aimed at strengthening environmental sustainability.

Significance and Participants

The signing of the Memorandum represents an important step in institutionalizing the partnership between the two countries in the field of ecology. The agreement provides for information exchange, scientific collaboration, and the development of professional competencies for environmental expertise specialists.

Participants in the ceremony included:

Alexander Bulak, Director of the Republican Center for State Environmental Expertise (Belarus);

Gayrat Mukhamedov, General Director of the State Unitary Enterprise “State Environmental Expertise Center” (Uzbekistan);

Representatives of relevant ministries and agencies, environmental experts, and media representatives.

Expected Outcomes

Implementation of the Memorandum is expected to:

Strengthen bilateral cooperation in environmental assessment at the institutional level;

Establish scientific and technical collaboration in developing regulatory documents and environmental standards;

Enhance the qualifications of specialists and introduce innovative approaches into practice;

Create a permanent platform for experience exchange between experts from both countries.

Background

The Belarusian delegation’s visit to Uzbekistan takes place from 20 to 23 October 2025. The program includes visits to the State Environmental Expertise Center, the Green University for Central Asian Environmental and Climate Studies, and a soda plant in the city of Kungrad.
