Uzbekistan and Bahrain Strengthen Cooperation in Domestic Security
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A delegation from Uzbekistan met with Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior of the Kingdom of Bahrain, to enhance bilateral cooperation and exchange experience in the field of domestic security, according to the Dunyo news agency.
The Bahraini Interior Minister praised the wide-ranging reforms carried out in Uzbekistan in recent years, noting their tangible results and the country’s growing authority on the international stage.
Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa expressed Bahrain’s keen interest in intensifying cooperation with Uzbekistan, particularly in strengthening interaction in the area of internal security. He emphasized the success of the reforms initiated by the President of Uzbekistan and underlined the importance of mutual exchange of expertise in various fields.
During the talks, a broad range of issues was discussed with a focus on enriching the bilateral agenda between the ministries of internal affairs with specific initiatives and practical measures.
In particular, the sides discussed the possibility of organizing a visit to Uzbekistan by a Bahraini Ministry of Interior delegation led by the minister himself, as well as the establishment of a bilateral consultative council between the relevant departments. The first meeting of this council is proposed to be held in Tashkent or Manama.
Special attention was given to the importance of knowledge-sharing and experience exchange in areas such as counterterrorism and counter-extremism, the fight against illicit drug trafficking, and ensuring public safety. The sides also discussed the potential for organizing short-term training courses in the capitals of both countries, conducting joint field exercises in Bahrain, and appointing liaison officers to coordinate activities.
As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached to establish close coordination between the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Riyadh and the Ministry of Interior of Bahrain to systematically implement the agreed areas of cooperation.
