Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan Strengthen Interparliamentary Cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 1 July, the ancient city of Khiva hosted a meeting between Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Tanzila Narbayeva, and Chairperson of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Sahiba Gafarova. The meeting was held as part of the First Uzbekistan-Azerbaijan Interparliamentary Forum.

During the discussion, it was emphasized that thanks to the political will of the leaders of both countries, Uzbekistan-Azerbaijan relations have reached a qualitatively new level — built on alliance, mutual trust, and respect.

Special attention was paid to the steady development of the interparliamentary dialogue and the importance of establishing a strong institutional framework to deepen bilateral cooperation.

The sides discussed the need to intensify experience-sharing between the two parliaments in priority areas such as digitalization, innovation, education, environmental protection, climate resilience, and support for youth initiatives.

They also highlighted the importance of expanding cooperation between relevant committees and commissions, as well as the need for regular reciprocal visits by parliamentary delegations.

Mutual interest was expressed in further strengthening cooperation within international and regional parliamentary platforms, including the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, and the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

The forum's agenda was noted as being rich and focused on key issues — from strengthening strategic partnerships and humanitarian ties to coordinated actions in addressing global challenges and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

As a result of the talks, two key documents were signed: an Action Plan for Interparliamentary Cooperation for 2025–2026, and the Regulation on the Activities of the Interparliamentary Commission — a major step toward institutionalizing bilateral parliamentary interaction.
