Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A delegation from Russia’s Astrakhan Region, led by Governor Igor Babushkin, is taking part in the second meeting of the Council of Regions of Russia and Uzbekistan.

According to the regional administration, trade turnover between Astrakhan Region and Uzbekistan increased by 6 percent last year. The region exports industrial goods, fish, and agricultural products to the Uzbek market, with the volume of agricultural exports quadrupling since the start of this year.

In turn, Uzbekistan exports fruits, vegetables, and textile products to Astrakhan.

To further expand economic cooperation, plans are underway to open a Uzbekistan Trading House in Astrakhan and to develop the region’s transit potential as one of the key hubs of the North–South International Transport Corridor, which facilitates cargo transportation between the two countries.

Humanitarian cooperation is also deepening. A branch of the Astrakhan State Technical University successfully operates in Tashkent Region, training specialists for the fisheries sector.

Interregional ties are being reinforced through a cooperation agreement and roadmap with Khorezm Region, as well as twin-city relations between Astrakhan and Urgench.

In addition, a partnership agreement has been signed with Bukhara Region.
