Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 22 February, during a brief stop in Kabul, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov discussed the development of Uzbek-Afghan cooperation with Acting Head of the Interim Government of Afghanistan Mullah Muhammad Hassan Akhund.
During the talks, the parties voiced mutual interest in the comprehensive expansion of bilateral partnership. Topical tasks to expand cooperation in trade, economic, energy, transport and logistics, cultural and humanitarian spheres were considered.
Further steps are outlined to resume cooperation to ensure food security, accelerate the resumption of economic activity and maintain sustainable peace in Afghanistan.
Special attention was paid to further steps to promote the implementation of the project for the construction of the trans-Afghan railway corridor "Termez - Mazar-i-Sharif - Kabul - Peshawar", as well as the project for the construction of the power line "Surkhon - Puli-Khumri". The Afghan side expressed readiness to continue cooperation in this direction and active participation in the practical implementation of projects.
Gratitude was also expressed to Uzbekistan for the ongoing efforts to restore the activities of the international airport in Mazar-i-Sharif and organized courses for the training of technical personnel from among local specialists.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to develop a dialogue in order to accelerate the resolution of all issues related to the further deepening of Uzbek-Afghan cooperation.
