Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan Airways is set to expand its fleet with additional Boeing aircraft.
During a ceremony marking the signing of several bilateral agreements following a roundtable attended by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard L. Latnik, Uzbekistan Airways concluded a contract with Boeing for the supply of new planes.
The U.S. Department of Commerce reported that the national airline plans to acquire eight additional Boeing 787 Dreamliners, bringing the total order to 22 aircraft. The financial details of the deal were not disclosed. According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, these highly efficient aircraft will support the airline’s growth and expand its presence on international routes.
The airline noted that the document was signed by Shukhrat Khudaikulov, Chairman of the Board of Uzbekistan Airways, and Paul Riggi, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Boeing.
“As a result, the national carrier of Uzbekistan now has a firm order for a total of 22 modern wide-body Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft,” the airline added.
Previously, in September 2025, Uzbekistan Airways and Boeing signed an initial contract valued at over US$8 billion for up to 22 Boeing 787 Dreamliners. The agreement covers the purchase of 14 Boeing 787-9 aircraft with an option for eight additional planes, significantly modernizing the airline’s long-haul fleet and strengthening its global connectivity.
Uzbekistan Airways is the first operator of the Boeing 787 in Central Asia and currently operates the 787-8 model on routes connecting Europe, Asia, and the United States, including direct flights to New York. The upgraded 787-9, with greater capacity and range, will allow the airline to expand international routes, including to the U.S. and other long-haul destinations, responding to rising demand for international travel.
