Uzbekistan Advances Second Phase of Samarkand E-Bus Project

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan held discussions on the preparation of the second phase of the electric bus procurement project for public transport in Samarkand, part of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development’s (EBRD) “Green Cities” initiative.

The working meeting included European consultants from Mott MacDonald, engaged by the EBRD to support the project, as well as First Deputy Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan, Mamanbiy Omarov.

Participants reviewed several key aspects of the preparatory documentation for the second phase of Samarkand’s public transport modernization program. The discussion focused on updating the fleet master plan, clarifying bus routes, determining the number of electric buses needed, and addressing technical issues related to integrating new vehicles with the city’s electrical infrastructure.

The initiative forms part of the EBRD “Green Cities” program, aimed at developing environmentally sustainable urban infrastructure and modernizing public transport systems across Uzbekistan.
