Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan has approved the Bill on State Social Insurance, aimed at strengthening the country's social protection system.

During discussions, lawmakers emphasized that the new edition of the Constitution enshrines every citizen’s right to social security in cases of disability or unemployment. However, in practice, employees facing temporary incapacity or dismissal often encounter difficulties in obtaining social assistance.

The issue is particularly pressing in the private sector, where some employers evade paying maternity benefits and temporary disability allowances. In some cases, this results in job refusals or dismissals of pregnant women.

To address these challenges, the bill introduces crucial regulations governing the state social insurance system. Specifically, it provides for:

Temporary disability benefits due to illness

Maternity and childbirth benefits

Unemployment and income loss support through state social insurance

The bill also establishes procedures for granting, suspending, resuming, and terminating payments in cases covered by the insurance system.

According to lawmakers, the adoption of this bill will ensure timely benefit payments to all working citizens, regardless of their employment sector. Moreover, the new mechanisms will help prevent socially active individuals from falling into poverty.

The bill has been approved by the deputies.
