Uzbekhydroenergo and TBEA Co., Ltd. Expand Strategic Partnership in Hydropower

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — JSC “Uzbekhydroenergo” and one of China’s leading energy companies, TBEA Co., Ltd., have signed a package of agreements marking a new phase of strategic cooperation in the development of Uzbekistan’s hydropower sector.

Under the agreements, a comprehensive modernization of hydroelectric plants HPP-19, HPP-22, and HPP-23, part of the Lower Bozsui cascade in Tashkent Region, will be carried out on an EPC (“turnkey”) basis.

Following open and transparent tender procedures, TBEA Co., Ltd. was selected as the winner, fully meeting technical, technological, and quality requirements, and possessing extensive international experience in implementing large-scale energy and infrastructure projects.

The company’s proposal was recognized as the most optimal due to advanced technological solutions, an innovative approach, high managerial and engineering competence, and the potential for a long-term, sustainable, and mutually beneficial partnership.

The signed contracts provide for turnkey modernization of the hydropower facilities.

As a result of the project, control systems and technological equipment will be upgraded, significantly improving reliability and operational safety, as well as increasing the installed capacity and efficiency of the hydroelectric plants.

The total installed capacity of the modernized HPPs will grow from 27.4 MW to 32.4 MW, providing an additional 5 MW of capacity and producing approximately 52.8 million kWh of electricity annually.

This will supply energy to over 21,000 households and enable annual savings of 17 million m³ of natural gas and more than 40,000 tons of coal.

The project will further strengthen Uzbekistan–China strategic cooperation, accelerate the adoption of innovative technologies, and implement international standards in the national hydropower sector. Modernization will also contribute to regional energy security, increase clean energy production, and ensure sustainable power supply.

Cooperation between JSC “Uzbekhydroenergo” and TBEA Co., Ltd. lays a strong foundation for large-scale investment projects and the implementation of modern technological solutions, enhancing the resilience of the energy system and Uzbekistan’s competitiveness in the global energy market.

Looking ahead, the partnership envisions new large-scale initiatives aimed at developing innovative technologies, promoting environmentally sustainable energy solutions, and further strengthening the country’s energy security.
