Uzbekhydroenergo and CSGI to begin construction of the Yukori Pskem HPP in March

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — From 6 to 10 January 2025, during a visit to the People's Republic of China, a delegation led by the Chairman of the Board of Uzbekhydroenergo, Abdugani Sanginov, visited the headquarters of China Southern Power Grid International Co. Ltd (CSGI) in Guangzhou.

China Southern Power Grid Company Limited (CSGI) is a state-owned energy company operating in Southern China. The company specializes in the production, transmission, and distribution of electricity. Founded in 2002, it is one of the largest companies in the country.

In 2023-2024, CSGI reported an operating income of 842.6 billion yuan (US$118.8 billion) from the sale of 1.35 GWh of electricity. CSGI ranks 78th on the list of the 500 largest companies in the world.

During the meeting, the current high-level relations and completed work were analyzed, and tasks for the future were discussed. Specifically, the investment projects for the construction of the "Yukori Pskem HPP on the Pskem River in the Bostanlyk district of Tashkent region" and "Khojakent HPP in the Bostanlyk district of Tashkent region" were reviewed.

Given that the design phase of the "Yukori Pskem HPP" is nearly complete and its significance for the national energy system, it was decided to begin active construction work in March of this year.

Additionally, as this investment project is the first of its kind in Central Asia, a ceremony to officially launch the construction of the "Yukori Pskem HPP" will be held on March 10, 2025, in the Bostanlyk district of Tashkent region, with the participation of high-ranking officials.

During the meeting, a mutual implementation agreement (JDA) for the construction of the "Khojakent HPP in the Bostanlyk district of Tashkent region" was also ceremoniously signed.

Given the similarities between this project and the previous one, construction work is planned to begin later this year.

These efforts will attract significant investments to our country, create new high-capacity hydroelectric facilities, and ensure a continuous supply of environmentally friendly electricity to the growing population and rapidly developing industries.
