Uzbek Women Repatriated from Türkiye

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Fifty female citizens of Uzbekistan who had been held in deportation centers in Türkiye have been repatriated. This was made possible thanks to agreements reached during negotiations between the Agency for External Labor Migration of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Türkiye.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the legalization of Uzbek nationals residing in Türkiye without proper documentation.

The negotiations resulted in several key agreements:

— The Turkish side agreed to register Uzbek citizens without applying administrative sanctions, followed by the issuance of residence and work permits.

— Both parties reached an agreement on recognizing the legal status of Uzbek nationals working in the informal sector, particularly in areas such as elderly and childcare, as well as agriculture.

— Air tickets for the return of the 50 women held in temporary detention centers were purchased using funds from the Migration Fund.

— Identity documents required for repatriation were issued for 28 of the women, and the process of their return to Uzbekistan is already underway.

— The sides also agreed to develop a new intergovernmental agreement aimed at expanding social protection measures for Uzbek nationals working in Türkiye.

Authorities are urging citizens to engage in labor activities strictly within the framework of the law. A step-by-step guide for the legalization of status for Uzbek nationals with unresolved residency issues in Türkiye will be published soon. Stay tuned for updates.
