Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Today, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis is developing inter-parliamentary cooperation with many countries of the world, and in particular with the parliaments of European states.
On 1 November 2022, Tanzila Narbayeva, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, met with members of the parliamentary group of the German Bundestag “Germany – Central Asia”.
The meeting discussed the current state and prospects for cooperation between Uzbekistan and Germany, including issues of strengthening inter-parliamentary ties.
As noted during the dialogue, cooperation between Uzbekistan and Germany is currently expanding in all areas, including in trade, investment, cultural and humanitarian spheres.
It should be noted that in recent years the pace of bilateral inter-parliamentary relations has significantly intensified. In Germany, the desire for cooperation has also increased. This, of course, was facilitated by the open, constructive and pragmatic foreign policy of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
An important milestone in the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation was the meeting of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev with the Chairman of the German Bundestag on 21 January 2019 as part of an official visit to Germany.
The Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation, signed by the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the German Bundestag following the results of the meetings, provided the legal basis for relations between the parliaments.
Chairperson of the Senate Tanzila Narbaeva, noting the rich experience and traditions of German parliamentarism, outlined the need to develop inter-parliamentary relations between Uzbekistan and Germany, an important area of which is interaction within the framework of the EU project “Inter Pares”.
Also, Tanzila Narbayeva emphasized that due to the positive results achieved in enhancing the role of parliament in the public administration system, Uzbekistan became the first country in the region participating in this project.
During the meeting, the parties noted that the format of such meetings will serve as the beginning of a new stage in the development of Uzbek-German relations on the path of developing mutually beneficial and multifaceted cooperation.
In turn, Deputy Chairman of the parliamentary group "Germany - Central Asia" Robin Wagener noted that Germany attaches special importance to the development of relations with the key state of the Central Asian region - Uzbekistan. A significant increase in Germany’s interest in establishing mutually beneficial relations was largely facilitated by the results of socio-political reforms in Uzbekistan, the ongoing policy of openness, the radical liberalization of foreign economic activity, the improvement of legislation and the favorable conditions created for foreign and local entrepreneurs.
Robin Wagener also expressed interest in carrying out exchanges of mutual visits of delegations to Germany and Uzbekistan, aimed at building up close inter-parliamentary ties between the Bundestag and the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan.
At the meeting, an agreement was reached on the exchange of experience in the field of parliamentary activities in the implementation of the EU project to strengthen the potential of parliaments "Inter Pares", the activation of inter-parliamentary relations at the level of the heads of relevant committees and friendship groups, mutual support and coordination of the positions of the parties within international parliamentary organizations.
