Uzbek President signs law on limiting age of judges

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a law “On introduction of changes and amendments to the law “On courts”, Civil Procedural and Economic Procedural Code of Uzbekistan” on 12 April 2017.

Legislative Chamber passed the law on 18 March 2017 and Senate approved it on 28 March 2017. The law comes into force on 1 June 2017. The regulation on order of election, appointment and terms of courts comes into force from date of publication in mass media.

The amendments set terms for judges. Age of judges of Supreme Court cannot be higher than 70 and other courts – 65 years.

It also determines order of election of judges and abolishment of their authorities.

The law also envisages amendments to some legislative acts directed at reforming judicial system of Uzbekistan.
