Uzbek President attends meeting of SCO and BRICS leaders

The participants exchanged opinion on cooperation within the SCO and BRICS, development of world economy, including achievement of joint economic growth, support financial stability and structural reforms, regional and global problems, the press service of the President of Uzbekistan said.

The summit participants, taking into account global character of modern threats and challenges, expressed their full support for international measures and actions directed to overcoming them.

In his speech, President of Uzbekistan noted that this unique meeting with the participation of heads of states of SCO and BRICS is important for both international bodies with tremendous social and economic potential.

Islam Karimov noted that today there is no state, which does not concern with the growing threat of international terrorism and extremism. He noted that there is need to build confidence between the countries in fighting these challenges.

Uzbek leader expressed his assurance that the SCO and BRICS meeting will improve well-being of people of member states and further strengthening of peace and stability.

Main events of the SCO summit will take place on 10 July. It is expected that the SCO leaders will sign Ufa declaration and adopt the SCO development strategy till 2025, as well as decisions on expanding organization and further improving its activities.

Within the visit of the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov to Ufa, it is planned that the Uzbek leader will hold several bilateral meetings.
