Uzbek Parliament Approves Law on Online Offenses
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Legislative Chamber of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis reviewed and approved a draft law amending the Code of Administrative Liability, introduced by a group of deputies through legislative initiative.
During preparation for the second reading, several provisions were clarified and editorially refined based on lawmakers’ suggestions and comments from relevant ministries and agencies.
The law establishes administrative responsibility for the use of obscene language in telecommunications networks and the internet, insulting actions or other behavior that undermines the honor and dignity of citizens, dissemination of materials promoting participation in military activities, and the publication of information about committed offenses in media and online. It also introduces liability for unlawful actions related to seized property during enforcement proceedings.
The legislation aims to strengthen legal culture in the information space, maintain public order, prevent the promotion of offenses, and address existing gaps in the law.
Deputies emphasized that the law seeks to reinforce ethical and moral standards online, protect citizens’ honor and dignity, prevent new types of violations, and enhance the effectiveness of preventive measures and law enforcement practices.
Following the discussion, the draft law was approved by the Legislative Chamber and forwarded to the Senate for consideration.
