Uzbek Officials Arrested for Land and Tax Bribery
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During joint operations, the State Security Service of Uzbekistan and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the Prosecutor General’s Office detained two officials for accepting bribes.
In the first case, an engineer from the cadastral branch of the Samarkand Regional Administration of the State Cadastral Chamber in the Pastdargom district was arrested. He received USD 2,500 from a local resident in exchange for issuing a cadastral passport for a 200-square-meter plot of land.
A criminal case has been opened against him under Articles 168 Part 3 “b” and 211 Part 1 of the Criminal Code. He has been remanded in custody.
In the second case, the former chief inspector of the State Tax Inspectorate of the Sherobod district in Surkhandarya region was detained. He received 10 million soms from a 1983-born citizen for restoring ownership rights over a horticulture-focused farm being considered in the regional economic court.
A criminal case has also been opened against him under Article 168 Part 3 “b” of the Criminal Code, and he is being held in custody.
