Uzbek leader approves measures on developing oncological service

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a resolution “On measures on further developing oncological service and improving oncological care for population of Uzbekistan for 2017-2021” on 4 April 2017.

The resolution is directed at improving oncological service in Uzbekistan and providing high quality services to population.

The resolution set priority directions of further oncological service in Uzbekistan. Among the tasks are preventing and early diagnosing cancer diseases, introducing screening cancer diseases, etc.

The document also includes measures on modernizing oncological institutions via repairing them and introducing modern medical equipment and tools. It is also planned to improve training of healthcare specialists.

The resolution created Republican specialized scientific-practical center of oncology and radiology with its branches in the regions.

The center will provide high quality healthcare oncology services to population, introduce modern methods of preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer diseases, train highly skilled specialists.

The center will conduct scientific-practical researches and developments in the field of oncology. The Centers for preventing cancer and experimental oncology will be created to improve diagnosis of cancer and develop local anti-cancer medicaments.

Oncological institutions will receive new medical equipment, including Da Vinci complex and gamma knives.

Departments for providing Palliative care will be created at regional oncological institutions, including four at inter-regional hospices in Tashkent, Ferghana, Samarkand and Urgench.

The resolution said that 32.5 billion soums of budget resources and US$144.1 million of loans and grants of international financial institutions will be directed to implement measures, indicated in the resolution.

Implementation of the measures, envisaged by the President’s resolution, will allow to reduce the death rate from cancer diseases from 38.7 to 35 per 100,000 population, to increase the availability of antineoplastic drugs for cancer patients from 33% to 90%, to cover the population’s demand for high-tech treatments up to 70%.
