Uzbek-Japanese Business Forum in Tashkent Focuses on Infrastructure and “Smart City” Development
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 4 March, Tashkent hosted the Uzbek-Japanese Business Forum dedicated to infrastructure development and the implementation of “smart city” technologies.
The forum, organized by the Ministry of Investments, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan, served as a platform to discuss new avenues for investment and technological cooperation between the two countries.
The Uzbek delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Investments, Industry, and Trade Ilzat Kasimov. Participants also included representatives of relevant ministries, the Agency for Foreign Investment Attraction, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, IT Park, and national infrastructure organizations.
The Japanese delegation was headed by Deputy Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism Terada Yoshimichi. It also included Ambassador of Japan to Uzbekistan Hirata Kenji and representatives from leading Japanese companies, including Hankyu, Shimizu, Nikken Sekkei, Itochu, Marubeni, Sojitz, and Oriental Consultants Global.
According to the organizers, bilateral trade between Uzbekistan and Japan reached nearly US$400 million in 2025. Over the past eight years, the number of companies with Japanese capital in Uzbekistan has grown almost tenfold, reaching approximately 130 enterprises.
During the forum, participants discussed prospects for joint projects in intelligent transport systems, modernization of municipal infrastructure, digital urban monitoring, public transport development, and sustainable urban planning.
Both sides confirmed their mutual interest in expanding investment and technological cooperation.
