Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 27 November 2019, the Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Israel to Uzbekistan Eduard Shapira at the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade.
During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on current bilateral cooperation, considering in this context the prospects for strengthening relations between business circles of Israel and Uzbekistan to intensify investment and trade and economic partnership.
Significant progress was achieved this year during joint events - the 5th round of the Uzbek-Israeli inter-MFA political consultations, the Agribusiness Forum and a number of business meetings in the B2B format.
At this stage of partnership development, the priority is the active involvement of Israeli experience and technologies in the basic and socially significant sectors of the economy of Uzbekistan, such as agriculture, information and communication technologies, healthcare and education. In this vein, the meeting participants discussed the prospects of opening the Holon Institute of Technology in Tashkent in order to train specialists in the areas of engineering mathematics and computer technology.
Separately, the issue of trade development was touched upon - the level of industrial development in both countries is currently sufficient to significantly increase trade, in connection with which the Export Promotion Agency under the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Israel Export and International Cooperation Institute (IEICI) will establish exchange cooperation experience in the development of export activities.
Following the meeting, an initiative was put forward and discussed to hold the first meeting of the Uzbek-Israeli intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, investment, scientific and technical cooperation, as an important step towards systematizing and increasing the effectiveness of economic cooperation between the two countries.
