Uzbek Interior Ministry: Officer Killed While Attempting to Subdue Armed Suspect
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A law enforcement officer in Uzbekistan was killed in the line of duty, according to a statement from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, delivered by spokesperson Shukhrat Giyasov.
The tragic incident occurred on the evening of 1 July at approximately 20:50 in the "Yuksalish" mahalla of Khojaabad district in the Andijan region. Senior Lieutenant Abdurasul Abduvaliyev, a prevention inspector, had responded to a report of a domestic conflict.
According to the Ministry, upon arrival at the scene, 64-year-old Yunusali Kholbozorov, who was reportedly intoxicated, was threatening his family members with a kitchen knife. When the officer attempted to detain him, Kholbozorov fatally stabbed Abduvaliyev in the chest.
The officer died en route to the hospital from the injuries sustained.
A criminal case has been initiated under Article 97, Part 2, Clause “g” of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan — premeditated murder of a person performing official duties. The suspect fled the scene, and a search operation is currently underway.
The Interior Ministry has called on citizens to report any information about Kholbozorov’s whereabouts by calling 102 or contacting the nearest police department. Anonymity is guaranteed.
The ministry expressed its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the fallen officer, emphasizing that Senior Lieutenant Abduvaliyev demonstrated courage and selflessness in the execution of his duty.
