Uzbek Interior Ministry clarifies charges against Alisher Tursunov

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Alisher Tursunov, also known as Mubashshir Ahmad, is wanted under a different article of Uzbekistan’s Criminal Code than previously reported.

Earlier, authorities stated that he was placed on the wanted list under Part 1 of Article 244-2, which pertains to the creation, leadership, and participation in religious extremist, separatist, fundamentalist, or other banned organizations.

However, according to Interior Ministry spokesperson Shohruh Giyasov, a technical error occurred when entering the data into the system.

Tursunov is actually wanted under Article 244-3 of the Criminal Code, which concerns the illegal production, storage, import, or distribution of religious materials.
