Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan denied reports of a shootout on the Uzbek-Afghan border.
“In some social networks, with reference to Afghan sources, reports are being circulated about an alleged shootout on the night of 4 May 2022 on the Uzbek-Afghan border, which, as indicated, resulted in the death of servicemen of the Border Troops of the State Security Service of the Republic of Uzbekistan,” the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
“We declare that the information disseminated is not true. The situation at the border remains calm, the protection of the southern borders is carried out as usual," the agency notes.
"The official representative of the Interim Government of Afghanistan, Zabihullah Mujahid, also denied the publications that appeared on various Internet sites, calling them false and unfounded," the Foreign Ministry emphasizes.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan calls on the mass media to strictly observe journalistic ethics and refrain from posting unreliable and unverified information on their resources.
