Uzbek Foreign Minister takes part in ministerial meeting on Afghanistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 8 September 2021, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov took part in the ministerial meeting on Afghanistan in the format of a video conference.

The meeting, organized at the initiative of the US Department of State and the German Foreign Ministry, was attended by the heads of foreign affairs agencies of more than 20 countries of the world and also representatives of the UN, EU and NATO.

The event discussed the current situation in Afghanistan, issues of consolidating efforts to resolve the Afghan crisis and the provision of humanitarian assistance to the population of the country.

The importance of the Taliban’s fulfillment of their obligations to respect fundamental human rights and freedoms, in particular, ensuring the rights of women and national minorities, and preventing the activities of terrorist organizations in Afghanistan, was noted.

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan in his speech focused on the need to develop a post-conflict strategy for Afghanistan, including the early restoration of its economy, the country’s involvement in regional integration processes, and the implementation of infrastructure projects.
