Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 28 April 2021, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov received a delegation from the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE / ODIHR) headed by its director Matteo Mecacci.
During the conversation, the current state and prospects for the further development of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Bureau for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights were discussed.
It was noted that the visit of the ODIHR delegation is taking place in the conditions of deep political, social and economic transformations being carried out in the country, as a result of which the image of the new Uzbekistan has been formed.
A high assessment was given to the work carried out in the republic to comprehensively protect the rights and freedoms of citizens, ensure gender equality, improve the quality of education, and strengthen the role of the media. The recognition of the successes achieved by Uzbekistan resulted in the country’s election to the UN Human Rights Council in October 2020.
The parties confirmed their interest in continuing constructive cooperation to improve the electoral legislation and practice in Uzbekistan, including taking into account the upcoming elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
At the meeting, an exchange of views took place on other issues of mutual interest.
