Uzbek Foreign Minister meets with British Ambassador and UN Resident Coordinator

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 1 June 2021, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Timothy Thorlow and United Nations Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan Helena Fraser. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan.

T. Torlow and H. Fraser conveyed a personal message from the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson, addressed to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, with an invitation to take part in the 26th UN Climate Summit (CPC-26).

During the conversation, it was noted that Uzbekistan attaches paramount importance to environmental protection, climate change and the preservation of ecological diversity, including mitigating the consequences of the drying up of the Aral Sea. It was emphasized that the unanimously adopted resolution of the UN General Assembly "On declaring the Aral Sea region a zone of environmental innovations and technologies" is a clear evidence of the readiness of the world community to support the efforts of Uzbekistan in this direction.

Special attention is paid to the participation of the British side and UN representatives in the International Conference “Central and South Asia: Regional Interconnectedness. Challenges and Opportunities”, held on 15-16 July 2021 in Tashkent.

Separate aspects of the Uzbek-British cooperation and issues of interaction of Uzbekistan with the UN and its specialized structures were also discussed.
