Uzbek FM takes part in the International Conference on Climate Resilient Pakistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 9-10 January 2023, a delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan headed by acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Bakhtiyor Saidov took part in the International Conference on Climate Resilient Pakistan, which was held in Geneva. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan.

The event, held under the auspices of the United Nations, was attended by UN Secretary-General A. Guterres, Prime Minister of Pakistan Sh. Sharif, UAE Minister of Environment M. al-Mhairi, State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar Sultan bin Saad al-Mureikhi, Federal Counselor, Head of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs I.Cassis, delegations from Greece, Great Britain, the USA, Japan, representatives of international and regional financial and banking institutions, the private sector.

President of the European Commission U. von der Leyen, President of France E. Macron, President of Turkey R. Erdogan, Prime Minister of Norway J. Støre spoke at the opening of the forum.

In his speech, the head of the delegation of Uzbekistan B. Saidov, among the priorities, outlined the support of the population affected by natural disasters, the restoration of the destroyed infrastructure, the revival of agriculture.

The forum participants were informed about the environmental programs being implemented in the republic, including the large-scale initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev “Yashil Makon”. Particular attention was paid to the problem of drying up the Aral Sea. Information is presented on the measures taken to mitigate the consequences of an environmental catastrophe, the transformation of the Aral Sea region into a zone of environmental innovations and technologies.

As part of the visit, the Uzbek Foreign Minister held bilateral meetings with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Shahbaz Sharif, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar Sultan bin Saad al-Mureikhi, Minister for Security Environment of the United Arab Emirates Maryam al-Mhairi, President of the Islamic Development Bank Suleiman Al-Jassir, Vice-President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank Konstantin Limitovsky.
