Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 17 October 2022, a delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan headed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Norov took part in an extraordinary meeting of the foreign ministers of the Organization of Turkic States (CMFA OTS) in Istanbul (Turkiye).
The event was also attended by the heads of the foreign ministries of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Hungary, Turkmenistan, as well as the secretary general and chairman of the council of elders (aksakals) of the OTS.
The participants in a friendly and constructive atmosphere exchanged views on topical issues of the regional and international agenda and interaction within the Organization, and also considered draft documents submitted for signing during the OTS summit scheduled for 11 November 2022 in Samarkand.
The head of the Uzbek delegation, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov stressed that the rapidity of the events taking place in the world and changes in international relations dictate the need for constant adaptation of the OTS to modern realities.
The importance of implementing initiatives put forward by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev within the framework of the Organization aimed at expanding trade and economic cooperation, strengthening ties in the field of transport, industrial and technological cooperation, innovation, ICT, science, technology and cultural and humanitarian interaction was noted.
Attention is focused on the need to establish a systematic dialogue on strategic issues in order to consolidate efforts to overcome the growing challenges and threats of our time.
The Uzbek Foreign Minister briefed the participants on the preparations for the OTS Samarkand Summit, which will be the first summit after the renaming of the Turkic Council into the Organization of Turkic States in 2021.
Following the meeting, it was decided to hold the next meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the OTS member states on 10 November 2022 in Samarkand, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan said in a statement.
