Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 14 September 2022, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov met with UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo, who arrived in our country to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in Samarkand.
During the talks, the current state and prospects of multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN and its institutions, which in recent years has risen to a qualitatively new level of development, were discussed.
DiCarlo expressed the UN’s support for the ongoing transformations in New Uzbekistan, including the work to implement the Sustainable Development Goals.
Topical issues of the regional and international agenda were considered.
High appreciation was given to the modern regional course of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which contributed to the formation of a new atmosphere of friendship, trust and mutual understanding in Central Asia.
The importance of the systemic efforts taken by the Uzbek side to promote the establishment of peace and tranquility in Afghanistan, its socio-economic recovery and the provision of humanitarian assistance to this country was noted.
The UN Deputy Secretary General congratulated Uzbekistan on the successful holding of an international conference in March this year on the implementation of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy in Central Asia.
In conclusion, DiCarlo expressed confidence in the successful holding of the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Samarkand.
