Uzbek FM holds a meeting with the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 24 October 2022, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov, as part of the heads of delegations of Central Asian countries who arrived in Seoul to participate in the 15th Central Asia-Republic of Korea Cooperation Forum, met with Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Kim Jin Pyo.

The head of the South Korean parliament noted the importance of the Central Asian region in Seoul’s foreign policy strategy, as a key node between East and West.

A high assessment was given to the achieved level of special strategic partnership between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea in such priority areas as the economy, finance, energy, industrial cooperation, information technology, e-government, agriculture, education, healthcare.

The Korean side was informed about the special commission set up in the Parliament of Uzbekistan, headed by the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, to monitor the effective implementation of projects with the Republic of Korea in all areas of interaction.

The speaker of the South Korean parliament highly appreciated the significance of the adopted Strategy for the Development of New Uzbekistan, which is aimed at deepening democratic processes, ensuring the rule of law, and improving the level and quality of life of the population.

He welcomed the desire of Uzbekistan to carry out a constitutional reform, which is "an urgent need in the process of democratization of the country and the legal improvement of the basis for a long-term economic development strategy."

The prospects for building up cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries, through "people’s" diplomacy and cultural and humanitarian exchanges, were discussed.

The speaker expressed great gratitude to the government of Uzbekistan for supporting the Korean diaspora, whose representatives have become full members of the "multinational fraternal Uzbek family" for 85 years of living in the republic.
