Uzbek discussed cooperation on “green” development with the Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 27 May, a meeting took place at the Cabinet of Ministers between the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Abdulla Aripov, and Mafalda Duarte, the Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund.

During the talks, Mafalda Duarte highly praised the extensive reforms being carried out under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. She noted that, thanks to a consistent reformist policy, Uzbekistan is demonstrating sustainable development across all key sectors.

She paid special attention to the priorities outlined in the “Uzbekistan – 2030” strategy, emphasizing that the goals set for promoting green financing, climate change adaptation, and environmental protection have attracted interest far beyond the country’s borders. The Executive Director of the Fund stressed that Uzbekistan takes climate risks seriously and is implementing scientifically grounded measures to mitigate them.

The parties engaged in a substantive exchange of views on expanding partnership in the implementation of joint projects and programs aimed at combating climate change, enhancing ecosystem resilience, and minimizing their negative impacts.

The agenda also included initiatives to establish a regional Green Climate Fund office in Uzbekistan, develop innovative projects on reforestation and sustainable land management, improve the socio-environmental situation in the Aral Sea region, effectively attract and utilize Fund resources, and organize joint educational programs within the framework of a “green” university.
