Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Sherzod Asadov has met with the Regional Representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights for Central Asia Richard Komenda, who arrived in Uzbekistan on a working visit.
The OHCHR Regional Representative congratulated the Uzbek side on successful participation in the High-Level Segment of the 46th session of the UN Human Rights Council and expressed readiness to contribute to the implementation of the initiatives put forward by the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Richard Komenda was informed about the large-scale reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan to strengthen the legislative and institutional framework for the protection of human rights, the implementation of international human rights standards in national legislation and the implementation of international obligations, as well as the intensification of cooperation with international organizations in this area.
The parties discussed the prospects for the development of relations between Uzbekistan and the OHCHR.
