Uzbek delegation participates in the 56th session of the UN Statistical Commission

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The 56th session of the UN Statistical Commission is taking place from 4 to 7 March at the United Nations headquarters in New York. The event has gathered representatives from national statistical offices of over 160 countries, along with more than 50 international organizations. Uzbekistan, as part of the delegation of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Statistical Committee, has actively engaged in the session’s discussions on key issues related to global statistical development, according to the CIS Statistical Committee’s press service.
Chairman of the CIS Statistical Committee K. E. Laikam delivered extensive statements, addressing pressing topics such as the implementation of the 2025 System of National Accounts, population and housing censuses, and data collection for monitoring the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Particular emphasis was placed on labor and employment statistics. In his speech, Laikam presented the CIS perspective, shared insights from the region’s experience, and expressed support for the key provisions of the session’s draft resolutions.
During the session, delegates participated in a meeting of the UN Committee for the Coordination of Statistical Activities, where they discussed strategic directions for the global development of statistics. Deputy Chairman of the CIS Statistical Committee A. E. Kosarev spoke at the meeting of the Governing Board of the Global Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) Comparison Program, presenting a report on the results of the 2021 PPP cycle in the CIS region and the ongoing preparations for the 2024 cycle.
An essential part of the session included working meetings with representatives of national statistical offices from CIS countries, including Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, as well as discussions with delegates from Brazil, China, South Africa, and other nations. Additionally, negotiations were held with leading international organizations such as the United Nations, UNECE, UNESCAP, UNESCWA, the World Bank, the OECD, and the International Labour Organization (ILO).
Uzbekistan’s participation in the 56th session of the UN Statistical Commission underscores the importance of international cooperation in the field of statistics and the country’s commitment to integrating into global processes aimed at enhancing data quality and its application in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
