Uzbek delegation hold talks with ILO officials

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A delegation of Uzbekistan held meetings with the Director of the Regional Bureau of the International Labor Organization (ILO) for Europe and Central Asia, Hainz Koller, Adviser to the ILO Director General Kari Tapiola, and Director of the ILO Labor Office Marie Helen Andre.

The delegation of Uzbekistan is participating in the 106th session of the International Labor Conference (ILC), which began its work in Geneva on 5 June.

The delegation included the Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva, the Minister of Employment and Labor Relations Aziz Abdukhakimov, the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Alisher Shaykhov and the Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of Trade Unions Bakhtiyor Mahmadaliyev.

The representatives of ILO highly appreciated implementation of the ILO Country Program for Decent Work in Uzbekistan, implementation of labor standards in accordance with international standards, monitoring and joint review of working conditions in agriculture with the ILO’s technical assistance, the press service of the Ministry of Employment and Labor Relations of Uzbekistan.

Separately, consonance of the Strategy of Action of Uzbekistan for 2017-2021, in which the social sphere is defined as one of the five priority areas, with the fundamental principles and objectives of the ILO, was noted.

According to the ILO representatives, Uzbekistan’s achievements in implementation of ILO conventions and recommendations, as well as mechanism of cooperation of the country with the Organization, serve as an example for other member states. Uzbekistan should demonstrate a successful tripartite dialogue of social partners in the republic at various venues and platforms of international events.

The sides noted need to expand bilateral cooperation, including in such areas as further improvement of legal framework, employment, including among women, as well as social protection of the population.

The sides agreed continue to maintain current positive dynamics of interaction, as well as to continue concrete practical measures to implement the ILO convention.
