Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A citizen of Uzbekistan, who was internationally wanted on charges of embezzlement or misappropriation on an especially large scale, was detained at Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport and extradited to his home country. The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs reported the incident on 15 May.

According to the investigation, the man, who headed a private company, had secured a bank loan of approximately US$9 million under the pretense of cultivating cotton. However, despite earning an estimated US$20 million in revenue from the sale of agricultural products, he failed to meet his loan repayment obligations and fled the country, going into hiding abroad.

Following a tip-off from Uzbekistan’s Interpol National Bureau regarding the suspect’s expected arrival in Russia, he was detained immediately upon landing at Vnukovo Airport.

On the same day, he was extradited to Uzbekistan, where he was handed over to local law enforcement authorities at the airport.
