Uzbek and German experts discuss issues of further strengthening multifaceted cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 19 October, at the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan (ISMI), a meeting was held with a German delegation led by the Secretary-General of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU) in the federal state of Brandenburg, Jan Redman.

During the talks, the parties exchanged views on the socio-political and socio-economic reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan, the state and prospects for the development of the Uzbek-German partnership, and also considered issues of the regional and international agenda.

Deputies of the Landtag (parliament) of the federal state of Brandenburg highly appreciated the steady and consistent course of the leadership of Uzbekistan to implement internal transformations, as a result of which a radical economic transformation has taken place in the country in recent years, the standard of living of the population has noticeably increased.

In the process of getting acquainted with the course of the election campaign in Uzbekistan, the German delegation positively assessed the pre-election situation in the country, the process of preparation for voting day, and, in general, the measures taken to hold free elections in Uzbekistan. "The results of the presidential elections will serve the continuation of large-scale democratic reforms in the country," says Jan Redman, MP, chairman of the CDU faction in the Landtag of Brandenburg.

At the same time, discussions took place on regional policy in Central Asia in the context of the development of the situation in Afghanistan. The German side was informed about the essence and content of Uzbekistan’s policy to strengthen good-neighborly relations in the region, to form a consolidated position of the Central Asian countries on the main issues of the foreign policy agenda. The approaches and positions of Uzbekistan on the political settlement of the Afghan conflict, as well as initiatives aimed at post-conflict reconstruction of the Afghan economy are outlined.

German representatives supported Uzbekistan’s efforts to build trusting and mutually beneficial relations in the region and Tashkent’s contribution to achieving sustainable peace and stability in Afghanistan. At the same time, Uzbekistan’s regular humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people was especially noted.

Following the meeting, the German side expressed its readiness to continue joint work to further strengthen the Uzbek-German multifaceted cooperation.
