Uzbek and German experts discuss issues of bilateral cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 31 August, the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies (ISMI) hosted a meeting with a delegation of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation headed by its Chairman of the Board Norbert Lammert.

The delegation included the Deputy Secretary General, Head of the Main Directorate for European and International Cooperation of the Fund, Dr. Gerhard Wahlers, and the regional authorized representative of the Fund for Central Asia, Ronnie Heine.

During the meeting, the guests were informed about the large-scale reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan. The sides exchanged views on topical issues of the regional and international agenda, promotion of cooperation between ISMI and the Foundation.

Separately, the regional policy of Tashkent was touched upon, which, according to Norbert Lammert, created ample opportunities for establishing close relations with neighboring countries. According to him, "it allowed not only to establish good-neighborly relations, but also to unite efforts to solve common regional problems."

Following the meeting, the interest of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in holding joint events on various topical issues in the areas of regional security, sustainable development, civil society and others was expressed.

It was emphasized that the development of bilateral cooperation between the Foundation and the Institute will help strengthen friendly relations between Uzbekistan and Germany.

Norbert Lammert, a German politician, was elected Vice-President of the Bundestag in 2002. In 2005-2017, he served as President of the Bundestag.
