US to allocate funds to fight climate change in Central Asia

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Unites States intend to allocate funds to combat with threats, posed by the warming of the planet, in Central Asia, the US State Secretary John Kerry said during the meeting with the Foreign Ministers of Central Asia in Washington.

Heads of the foreign policy bodies of the US and Central Asian met in the format of C5+1. The format С5+1was created in 2015. The US Secretary of State John Kerry held a meeting with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of five countries of Central Asia in New York. In November, Foreign Ministers of Central Asia and US Secretary of State John Kerry held C5+1 format meeting in Samarkand and adopted Samarkand declaration.

“We intend to support each of your nations as you adapt to the new standards that are needed to head off the threats that are posed by the warming of the planet by global climate change. And to help these efforts get off the ground, I can announce today that the United States intends to invest $15 million (to five projects) in this initiative in order to make sure that we get it off the ground as rapidly and effectively as possible,” John Kerry said.

He added that the US will partner will each of the countries of the region to develop cleaner renewable energy sources that can power everybody’s future while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
