US can ratify protocol to Central Asian nuclear free zone treaty
He noted that the Administration of the US President submitted the document to the Senate and the US State Department hopes that the protocol will be ratified in 2016, RIA Novosti reported.
US official said: “We already recommended Senate this document to senate and the US has difficult system of ratification and approval of the international agreements. We do not see any opposition in Senate on ratification of the document.”
The agreement on nuclear free zone in Central Asia was signed on 8 September 2006 in Semipalatinsk by officials of Kazakhstan, Kyryzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
The agreement has a protocol, open for signing by the nuclear states. Signing the protocol, the states undertook obligation not to use nuclear weapon and threat to use it against members of the agreement.
