UNVI to convert Mercedes Buses into electric buses in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Spanish company UNVI is set to launch a project in Uzbekistan to convert Mercedes buses into electric vehicles, according to Dunyo news agency.
Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Spain, Farrukh Tursunov, met with UNVI’s CEO Eloy Perez to discuss cooperation in the automotive sector and the development of eco-friendly transport.
Perez expressed interest in joint production of urban, intercity, and tourist buses, as well as minibuses under the UNVI brand, utilizing the company’s cutting-edge technologies. UNVI also noted the growing demand for buses in Uzbekistan, driven by the increase in tourist flows.
A key focus of the discussions was the modernization of decommissioned Mercedes-Benz Conecto buses in Tashkent, transforming them into electric buses. As part of the initiative, UNVI plans to train local specialists to facilitate technology transfer.
The company proposed a phased cooperation strategy, leveraging SamAuto’s production facilities in Samarkand, while considering local market conditions and ensuring the competitiveness of the final product.
