Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In March 2022, prolonged rains of unprecedented intensity and duration fell.
Indeed, March this year turned out to be very rainy. In most of the territory of the republic, except for the northern regions, the amount of precipitation has already significantly exceeded the monthly norm. In the mountainous and foothill regions of the republic, precipitation was 2-3 times more than usual. Almost 2 monthly rainfall has already fallen in Tashkent.
The duration of intense doges is also anomalous. In the period from 5 March to the present day, it has rained with short breaks almost daily.
The heaviest rains took place on 11-15 March. In some places in the republic, the amount of precipitation per day on some days reached 25-40 mm, in mountainous areas in places up to 50-60 mm.
The rain didn’t end there. Until March 18 inclusive, intermittent rains, sometimes strong, will pass over most of the territory of Uzbekistan. On 18 March, in places across the republic, the transition of rain to snow is not ruled out. In the north of the republic, precipitation in the form of rain and snow these days will be small.
After 18 March, a break in precipitation is expected for 2-4 days.
In the future, until the end of March, we do not expect such intense and prolonged rains as these days.
In March 2003, 2012 and 2021, very rainy weather was also observed, but such intense and prolonged rains as this year have not been observed before.
According to climate scientists, global warming does not lead to an increase in precipitation. However, it leads to an increase in the extremeness of weather phenomena, including an increase in the frequency of abnormally dry or abnormally wet periods. March of this year is a vivid confirmation of this.
