Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- An initiative between the Uztekstilprom Association and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in the field of Development of the ESG Strategy for Traceability and Transparency in the Textile Industry was published on 3 May 2022 on the official website of the United Nations.
The Strategy for Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG), being one of the relevant areas for the development of the textile sector of the republic, is in line with the UN Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The objectives of the initiative are aimed at developing environmental, social and business ethics management systems, providing opportunities for improving the management of environmental and social risks, including certification according to the best international standards. As part of its implementation, it is planned to create an independent textile testing laboratory for testing sustainable and safe textile materials.
The establishment of a multi-stakeholder ESG advisory council in Uzbekistan (which will include industry representatives at various levels) will contribute to the development of an action plan to improve traceability and transparency, and the organization of training and professional development for enterprise specialists on issues of sustainable development, and a green circular economy.
